Why do we do what we do?
besides the larger philosophical debate that question provokes, Gatto Gelato makes frozen desserts because it's super satisfying to make something delicious and twice as fun to share it.

Why make desserts?
feeling down or need a pick-me-up? treat yourself!
best day ever? keep it going with something delightful and sweet!
sweets are purr-fect for comfort and celebration, and those are some positive vibes we'd like to see more of in the world. -
Why gelato and sorbet?
smooth and creamy, sprinkled with a singular inclusion, or bursting with chunks and swirls;
served as hand-dipped bars, in cups and cones, or as frosty fillings in decadent desserts.
gelato and sorbet are excellent mediums to explore and craft fun new flavors. -
How is gelato different from ice cream?
- it contains more milk and less fat (6-8% vs ice cream's 15-25%), trapping less air ("overrun") and creating a denser, more elastic frozen dessert; less fat also means less fat coating your palate, promoting a richer taste.
- it's made to be served at a warmer temperature (10-20°F) than ice cream (5-10°F), allowing for a fuller experience of flavor with less numbing cold (we recommend allowing gelato kept in your home freezer to be placed on the counter to warm slightly for 5 or so minutes before enjoying).

You're out of my favorite flavor!
that's not really a question, but fair enough!
many ice cream and gelato makers purchase commercially-made base (for use in "cold-process" ice cream making) or produce their own uniform base that they add flavoring agents to ("semi-cold process"), decreasing the time and labor required to prepare each flavor but sacrificing some of the more delicate nuances between say a Pistachio, a Strawberry, and a Coffee flavor. Gatto Gelato use a hot-process recipe balanced and fine-tuned to suit each particular flavor, which allows for each to really shine but also requires more time to craft.
we'll always try our best to keep at least a little of every flavor in stock, but if it's been a minute and you're tired of waiting, drop us a line and we'll know to get right on it! -
Why dairy and gluten-free?
some people can't do dairy or gluten and everyone deserves a tasty treat now and again.

gelato is groovy, cats are cool, and alliteration is alluring.

Are all your flavors vegan-friendly?
no, but most of them are!
although Gatto Gelato is not strictly vegan (we use ethical honey in our Vanilla & Honey), we only use organic or raw sugar to avoid using sweeteners processed with animal products and will always indicate which flavors are vegan-friendly.
